I cannot think of a title but my OCD will not allow me to leave this post "Untitled"

My mom is having wrist surgery today. For some reason I am slightly
freaked out and can't focus (I think it's all the hardware and cadaver
bone they are putting in her). I know she'll be fine and she has a
great surgeon (he wears bow-ties!). Luckily, the thing that calms me
down is ART and I work in an art gallery :)
When there is down time, I like to do research and browse through
works of artists we carry and see their latest pieces. Cassandra
Barney is probably one of my favorites because she focuses on women
and her use of color is inspired- like when she pairs aqua blues with
tangerines and vibrant greens. Her figures are extreamely elegant and
willowy, almost hauntingly beautiful.
Her work is fresh and different than anything else out there. Her work
stands out in a gallery full of more tradtional religious art and
temple photography. I believe the contrast illustrates what exactly
makes art fun- it creates an instant reaction of love it/ hate it.
This particular painting is titled "Marissa would stare at her
bathroom wallpaper until she was lost in it"- it is an 8x10 oil on
paper and sold for $600

Blue Plate Diner

So for 2010 Lesley and I decided we needed to have more fun.

In January, we went to “The Importance of Being Earnest” at the Hale Center Theater.

In February, we went to Ballet West’s “Swan Lake” at the Capital Theater.

We have yet to decide on our fun event in March, which is quickly drawing to a close.

Every Wednesday, our BFF Kendra comes up to Salt Lake and we go out to dinner. In recent weeks (okay, let’s be honest, months) we have seemed to only go to 2 or 3 different places… BORING.  Last night, we all decided to take a chance and try something different.  We could not think of any thing “different” so we went for a drive that took us to Trolley Square, down 400 South, up State Street, across 2nd Ave, up to the University, down through Foothill and we ended at 21OO East 2100 South… The Blue Plate Diner!!! Les had heard about it on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives from the Food Network.  It was a total dive but has a fun retro feeling.  The staff were really laid back but professional.  They serve breakfast all day long so Les got a Belgium Waffle, and Kendra shared her basket of steak fries with me.  I also ordered a chocolate shake (ya, real healthy Alli- aren’t you supposed to be on Weight Watchers?!!! But that is a whole different story for another time).

It was all delicious and we have already decided to go back next Wednesday.  I think I’ll get French Toast or Eggs Benedict.

During our drive, Kendra mentioned our goal to have more fun in 2010 and suggested we should try to have friendship goals for 2010 (more like goals we accomplish as friends).  I think our first one will be finding the best non-dairy dessert in Salt Lake (We might included Utah County in the search as well).  I think a stipulation should be that it must be from a local establishment and not a chain. Any suggestions? The non-dairy will be hard b/c we all love ice cream but Kendra is lactose intolerant and we already know the best ice cream dessert is at Leatherby’s in Taylorsville.

Happy Hunting!!

Angel Unobserved

Here is an image of James' latest canvas "Angel Unobserved".

It is 9x12 and $225

It will be delivered to the galleries tomorrow so you can come take a look at it in person.

I love this work and purchased 1 for my mother (for Mother's Day) and 1 for myself.  It is a simple composition and yet has depth to it with subtle details and textures.  The brown damask background is elegantly juxtaposed with the shear veil the figure wears.  I also really like the possible messages included in the work.  Is the angel a guardian? A messenger? The future?

I also think it can be a reminder that Heaven is with us, even if we do not, or cannot see it.

I am very excited for this piece and would love to hear what you think about it.

I hope to see you in the gallery soon-

-Alli

I have been meaning to blog for ages but my laptop wasn't really
getting along with the Internet. Now that Les and I live in a new
place (we got an apartement right below our fab cousin Jenny!!) my
laptop is much more friendly with our neighbors wireless- LOL
Still- moblie blogging hopefully will turn out to be the primary way
to blog.
