London Reunion

Well... tomorrow is our London Study Abroad reunion and I am in a sentimental mood. It is so hard to believe that it has already been six months since we all were in London. That was honestly the best 2 months of my life. Getting ready for the reunion is just making me homesick. I have to go back; I just have to. I think my favorite London memory is when we played beauty parlor and Megan looked like the Bride of Frankestein and Berkeley was a tragic Gibson Girl and Lesley looked like Flock of Segauls. Or the time we went to the Opera at the Banqueting House for 'wine and nibbles." Or the time Tony made "fish pie" and no one dared to eat it. Or how there was ALWAYS custard with EVERYTHING. Or the dessert crumble yogurt... yummy strawberry. Or all the collage parties in the classroom while we watched movies. Actually- all 8 weeks were brilliant. The BIGGEST regret of my whole life is that I did not stay for summer, even though it was offered for me to stay. I loved being around for my nephew's birth in July though and I would not trade that for the world.

Big News

Well... it's finally happened. I met my soul mate in the Bookstore this morning. We spent all day together and... WE'RE ENGAGED!
I know that it seems sudden and I realise that all my plans are falling through, but we love eachother and are going to be together for eternity. What's grad-school compared to the Celestial Kingdom?
If you want an invitation, just e-mail me. Thom and I will be pleased to have you attend.
I just want to take this time to tell my roommates how much I love them. I love all of you, my dear friends, with every fiber of my being.

Top Movies

We love watching movies, old movies. We've now fallen in love with Alfred Hitchcock. Here are some of our favorites:

*Rear Window. This Hitchcock film stars James Stewart and Grace Kelly. There is just enough of scary to bring us back for more without causing nightmares. We really can't watch scary films- at all; honestly, it is physically impossible. This film is in color- so if you're not into black and white, this is a good pick for you.

*Rebecca. This film marks Hitchcock's American debut and it won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1940. Laurence Olivier stars as Maxim de' Winter and Joan Fontane stars as his bride. Rebecca shows just how brilliant Hitchcock is. The film is really, truly a work of art. No director can compete with Hitchcock's lighting effects to connote a mood or feeling. The shadows are very sinister- oooh! And let's face it- Sir Laurence Olivier is the most gorgeous man to ever life.

*The Lady Vanishes and Secret Agent. These works are from Hitchcock's British work in the 1930s. The are absolutely FANTASTIC. They are only about 1 hour- so if you get tired with long old movies- these are good picks for you. Plus, it is fun to see Hitchcock's artistic development.

C'est Halloween

There is a crisp in the air and we are talking about making carmel apples- it's official- Halloween is almost here. The following is a list of some of our favorite Halloween treats- please enjoy and add on to the list if you feel like we missed something!

1. fun size Twix
2. homemade beer- I mean rootbeer
3. Lesley's infamous pumkin cake
4. carmel apples
5. candy corn
6. KING SIZE Snickers
7. See's chocolate pumkin balls
8. the traditional toothbrush and tooth paste from the dentist in your neighborhood
9. the cheep candy in shapes of body parts- we prefer the lips

We are currently in a World Religion class that our dear friend Ashley MN took last year. Our professor is of a certain eastern background. As a result of fore-said background- he is unable to pronounce certain syllables of the English language properly. Here lies a few reflections on our audible experiences in this class:

1. "IS THAT WIGHT..." At the end of every statement, our professor adds this delightful statement, is that wight? He seems to not fully understand what that means, is that wight? In this class, we talk about many topics and ideologies that are new to most of the students in the class, is that wight?

2. "VERRY, VERRY, VERRY, VERRY..." To stress the importance of many things, our beloved professor uses this generic adjective. It makes us question his knowledge of the English language, yet when we read our text book- he writes better English and we could ever speak.

3. "I LOVE YOU, I LIKE YOU." He is constantly telling us, his students, how much he loves us and thinks of us as a family, which is part of his Confucian upbringing.

4. "TODAY, YOU WILL ENJOY THE FIRST MIDTERM EXAMINATION." Now imagine the "enjoy" part spoken slowly and "the first midterm examination" spoken Verry, verry, verry, verry quick. Like we are really going to enjoy it, is that wight?

With the end of our reflections, we smile and think of his small eyes being magnified by his gigantic glasses and giggle as we try to imitate his delightful accent. Ashley can do it the best- I can only do the "is that wight."

"When I grow up..."

When we were little, we wanted to be on a Double Mint Gum commercial. They always showed twins being so glamorous in a big city and chewing gum. Then we would be famous and probably get free gum for the rest of our lives, which would actually save us a lot of money. Sadly, this dream never came true. Secretly, we still want to be Double Mint Girls- we really want the free gum.

It's My First Time

Hi,

We are new to this whole blog thing, but we have been avid commentors on others. The story of our lives is, we shoudl be doing homework but we aren't and our friend Ashley is here!! We cann't spell, so it might be fun to come and see what we do spell.

Ha, Ha, Ha, I stole the computer and am determined to write something entirely inappropriate for a young BYU Student to have on her blog. But,,,,,,,,, I just can't think of anything at the moment. Other than a really good game of IN THE MANNER OF THE ADVERB in which we chose the adverb: INAPPROPRIATELEY. ( I can't spell either). - ashleymn
